Celebrating Somerset Race Evening

Wincanton Racecourse

Kick-start the early May bank holiday weekend in style with an evening at the races and a massive celebration of all things Somerset on Thursday, May 7.

The VE Day weekend will mark the anniversary of the end of the Second World War on May 8, 1945, and Wincanton Racecourse is throwing a party to celebrate this momentous weekend and the end of its racing season, too.

With small and large cider-makers right on the racecourse’s doorstep, Cheddar a staple of Somerset’s heartland, and cheese-makers aplenty across Somerset’s lush green pastures, Celebrate Somerset night will give racegoers the chance to sample delicious flavours, enjoy seven races, dance along to live music and feel fabulous about such an important weekend.

Local band Loose Connections are perfect for creating a party atmosphere with music to suit every taste, from the 1950s to the present day.

There are also seven horse races, which will have the crowds flocking to the paddock to make their selections before cheering them home at the winning post.

There will also be the chance to browse Clarks Shopping arcade.

Wincanton Racecourse general manager Huw Williams said: “We’re really looking forward to our first ever Celebrate Somerset night which will be a fitting start to a great weekend of celebrations across our county.

“It will be the conclusion to a terrific season here at Wincanton, and we hope people will come and join us so that we can sign off in style.”
