Ilminster Town Crier Competition
Saturday 11th May 2019 10.30 am - 2.00 pm
Market House, Ilminster
Town Criers from Lichfield to Launceston and Bromyard to Bognor and even Montgomery in deepest, darkest Wales will parade along East Street to the Market Square where they will compete for a variety of trophies – Best Crier, Best Dressed Crier, Escort and Couple, Best Home Town Ambassador. The event is loud and colourful. Each Crier will perform twice, firstly in praise of his or her home town, then on a theme entitled “I had a dream”. Between these performances, Ilminster Majorettes will entertain the audience. We hope to have a cry from one of the youngest Town Criers in the United Kingdom, 10 year old Ollie Pinder-Day. There is seating available, the Town Criers are all very friendly, approachable and not at all scary. The competition is hosted by Ilminster’s Andrew Fox and the guest of honour will be Bishop Ruth Worsley, Bishop of Taunton.
