Since 1904, four generations of the Thatcher family have been making cider at Myrtle Farm, in Sandford, Somerset.
Thatchers passion for quality has led to an unrivalled range of premium ciders, with its deep knowledge of apple varieties resulting in innovative ciders that are full of flavour and with a distinct character that reflects English cidermaking at its best. Its ciders include flagship brand Thatchers Gold, Thatchers Haze, Thatchers Vintage and Thatchers Katy.
Martin Thatcher feels strongly about supporting Somerset Dy 365 “After all what would Somerset be without cider? We’re a Somerset company through and through. My family has lived in the county for generations, and celebrating Somerset is what we do every day of our lives through our orchards, which are such a stunning part of our local environment, to the cider we make. For us, Somerset Day is all about coming together with friends and family, in our community, and celebrating this fantastic area we live and work in.”
Pyne’s of Somerset has become a destination for food shoppers from across three counties, some of them regularly driving 40 miles to get there.
It’s sited just off the M5 at North Petherton where Malcolm and Julie Pyne relocated from the village centre in 2011.
The business has grown hugely since but the fundamentals remain unchanged: meat is from locally-raised livestock which, says Malcolm Pyne, means customers are guaranteed unmatchable quality, whether buying prime cuts or his national award-winning sausages and burgers.
Pyne’s also offers fresh fish, a delicatessen counter, speciality regional products, Somerset ciders and a hot food takeaway.

The company was established in 2014 to bring together the county’s finest small food and drink producers, in order to compete for big catering contracts normally only open to larger businesses. It now has an impressive team of hand picked suppliers, all passionately committed to Somerset and its bountiful produce.

eat:Festivals is a not-for-profit social enterprise, based in Somerset, that aims to connect communities with the productive landscape that surrounds them, which is good for local business, food producers and for families.
All our food & drink festivals are free to attend, family-friendly, accessible and held in a town centre. We aim to celebrate the great local producers surrounding the festival town by putting on a cracking one-day festival that is low cost for them to attend – meaning that money goes straight back into local businesses; well publicised; good fun; well run and with lots of variety.
The festivals aim to bring a great range of producers and products into the town on the day of the festival. Mostly based within 25 miles of each town, with a few exceptional and hard to find products from further afield. Mix in a hands-on cook school, workshops, livestock, tractors and lots of entertainment and competitions. It’s a free day out and a chance to meet friends whilst discovering something new.
